Moving Tips (to reduce moving cost & stress)
|
 |
Remember: the more prepared you are while packing and preparing for the move, the more quickly the job can be completed.
Pack properly: The #1 problem during a move is packing. The fewer loose items you have, the faster the move will go. Statistics show that loose items take three times longer to move than boxes. Do not save money on packing supplies; save money on moving time!
• Use the proper box size: small boxes for books/heavy items, and large ones for light, bulky items. Do not under or overstuff boxes. Full boxes are easier to carry, easier to load, and are more secure.
• Putting together a box: fold flaps and secure the box with tape (especially the bottom). Mark fragile boxes!
• When packing dishes, do not pack them flat; put them on an edge only! Fill empty spaces with packing paper. Never leave fragile boxes under-stuffed. After you finish packing a box, shake it; it should be full, and no rattling should be heard.
Organize your move: The best assistance to a mover is for you to be organized and clear with your plans, rather than helping movers carry items.
• Label all boxes with internal contents and destination. Separate them from other items you are moving.
• Plan what extras you might need on the move (packing supplies, extra equipment, etc.) before the crew leaves the warehouse.
• Let us know in advance if you are moving from a heavily-congested area or an area with limited parking.
• Provide us with all phone numbers at which you can be reached on the day of your move.
Please note:
• We do not transport pets.
• We do not recommend transporting plants.
• Waterbeds, power equipment, etc. MUST BE DRAINED.
• Appliances MUST BE DISCONNECTED.
Contact our office if any assembly/disassembly is required. We provide simple assembly/disassembly only.
Check if there are any restrictions if elevators are to be used or if you are moving to a storage facility other than Tonka Storage. If there ARE restrictions, it is recommended that your move is scheduled as the first job of the day. This decreases the chances of delays from a move previous to yours.
